Class Description: Miquon Math is a hands-on math curriculum for Grades 1-3, developed in the 1960s by Lore Rasmussen at the Miquon School in Pennsylvania. Its tactile lab approach helps children actively explore math concepts, learning by doing. Cuisenaire Rods are an important part of the Miquon Math Labs program, being a tactile element that helps children visualize and understand concepts better. Rods are flexible – they can be used to model almost any mathematical concept and develop a wide variety of skills. Specific skills covered include: counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, equalities and inequalities, number lines and functions, geometric recognition, length, area, and volume, and clock arithmetic. Games will also be used to reinforcement and practice of concepts.
Prerequisites: Must be able to listen and follow simple instructions. Students with some math or counting knowledge will still benefit.
